Can I use a student loan for rent and other living expenses?

I am 20 years old and I have just gone back to school. I'm about to be a sophmore and I've decided to go into a nursing program at a community college. Unfortunately, me and my mom can't stand each other since my father's death and she's kicking me out. Can I get student loans to help me pay for an apartment and other living expenses until I graduate? I haven't had a job b/c i've been helping my mom in her family owned business.

Yes, you can use your student loans to cover any direct or indirect costs you incure because of school attendance. That includes the cost of paying your rent and all your food and bills. The problem here is that it could be difficult for you to get a private student loan without a cosigner. Federal backed student loans like the Stafford loan do not require a cosigner.

of course you can. room and board, transportation, books, food. you can use it for all that stuff and more. and if for some reason that doesent work, or you want another loan, tell them its a computer loan, then go out and buy one at costco or something, show them the receipt to prove you bought it, then return it and use the money for whatever you want. you should also look into financial aid, its never too late to update it. especially now since you can be considered as independant. you will get a whole lot more now than when you did before. Well at least that was at a state college, im not sure about community. but yeah, go for the loan thing. good luck!
